Cardinals teeing it up with six top-100 teams in Arizona
The Ball State men's golf team is out west to play its first stroke play event of the spring season at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate.
Michigan is hosting the tournament Saturday and Sunday on the Outlaw Course at Desert Mountain in Scottsdale, Arizona. The Cardinals have been in Arizona all week practicing during spring break to prepare.
The 12-team field this weekend features six squads ranked among the nation's top 100 by Golfstat -- Kansas (38), Marquette (41), Northwestern (44), Mississippi State (53), Michigan State (57) and Michigan (91).
The field also includes fellow Mid-American Conference programs Eastern Michigan and Miami along with Harvard, Lipscomb and Rutgers.
Ball State's lineup features Keegan Bronnenberg, Timothy Wiseman, Jack Cunningham, Joey Ranieri and Tyler Green. Bronnenberg led the Cardinals in the fall with a 71.57 stroke average and two top-10 finishes. Green, who competed in two fall events as an individual, will be making his debut as part of the BSU lineup.
Ball State hosted the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play last month in Florida, finishing third in the eight-team bracket.
The Desert Mountain Intercollegiate begins Saturday at 8 a.m. MT (10 a.m. ET), with the teams slated to play 36 holes. The third and final round will be played Sunday. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
