
Ongay’s 1M Finals Appearance Highlights Day Two

OXFORD, Ohio – The men of the Ball State swimming and diving team had another day full of personal records, but it was Hunter Ongay's career best on the 1M that carried him into the finals on day two of the Mid-American Conference Championships.
The Cardinals moved up a spot to fourth with 126 points while Miami continues to lead with 326.
Ongay scored a career high 267.00 in preliminaries Tuesday afternoon which qualified him for the finals later Tuesday night. He went on to finish sixth in the finals with a score of 262.45.
Day two opened with the 500 Free prelims where both Davis Meyn and Bennet Witteveen recorded lifetime bests. Meyn touched the wall in 4:35.95 and was followed by Witteveen's 4:43.94. Two additional lifetime bests followed in the 200 IM with Spencer Ball clocking in at 1:52.93 and Logan Ackley at 1:54.00.
The career bests were just getting started as five more made the list in the 50 Free. Ben Andrew started the fun with a 20.85 and was followed by Duncan McLarty's 21.25 and Drew Weeks' 21.54. Luke Nondorf and Jacob Powell also finished with lifetime bests at 21.94 and 22.09, respectively.
Ball added to his career record later by clocking the ninth best time in Ball State history in the 200 IM.
Joining Ongay on the diving board was Gabe Dean, Sean Wolfe and Trey Matheis. Dean finished second in the consolation final while Wolfe and Matheis took fourth and fifth.
Later in the night, the Cardinals competed in the 200 Free Relay in which they finished fifth. Andrew, Weeks, Meyn and McLarty made up the team for BSU.
