Women's Tennis Takes Down BGSU 5-2 In MAC Action Sunday

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State women's tennis team improved 13-4 overall and 2-2 in Mid-American Conference action after its 5-2 victory over Bowling Green (8-9, 1-3 MAC) Sunday afternoon at the Northwest YMCA Tennis Center.
The Cardinals took control of the match early on against the Falcons, winning the doubles point after taking courts two and three from BGSU. First off the court was the senior duo of Isabelle Dohanics and Peyton Gollhofer. The twosome dominated action over Ayumi Sasaki and Marta Bettinelli by not giving up a game, winning the match by a score of 6-0. Senior Audrey Berger alongside junior Rebecca Herrington clinched the point on two, giving Ball State the early 1-0 advantage, after beating Polina Radeva and Laura Silveira, 6-1.
In singles action, the Cardinals took first sets from the Falcons on courts one, two, four and five but dropped the first frames at positions three and six. Gollhofer improved to 13-1 on the season in dual action and remained undefeated in Mid-American Conference play with her 6-2, 7-5 defeat over Marharita Tavpash at the No. 2 spot.
After that, it became a tight race with two courts already well into their third sets, positions four and six were still fighting to win their second frames. Bowling Green earned its first point of the day with a win at three. Herrington registered a straight set victory at four to make the score 3-1. On the top court, Berger was down in the third but came back to win the tie breaker and clinch match point for Ball State.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues Mid-American Conference action at home Friday when it hosts Buffalo for a 1 p.m. first serve is at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center. If inclement weather occurs, the Cardinals will move indoors against the Bulls at the Northwest YMCA Tennis Center.
