Jameson strikes out 11 and bats come alive in win over Notre Dame
CHARLESTON, S.C. - Power pitching and timely hitting lifted the Ball State baseball team to a 6-2 win over Notre Dame on Saturday. The Cardinals, coming off a victory over Charleston Southern, have won three of their last four games.
With Drey Jameson cruising through the Notre Dame lineup, BSU broke the game open with four runs - all with two outs - in the bottom of the 4th. With the bases loaded, Ross Messina smacked a double to right to clear the bases. After William Baker reached on an error, Messina scored on an RBI single by Aaron Simpson.Â
With two outs in the 5th, Ryan Peltier hit his first career home run. His two-run shot made it 6-1 and Ball State's pitching took care of the rest.
"I tried to stay within myself and not try to do too much," Jameson said. "Confidence is key and routine and I believe in the guys behind me. When someone steps in the box it's like they are trying to take food off the table from me - so confidence and staying within myself on every pitch is key."
Peltier finished the day 2-for-4 and scored twice, while Messina was 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs.
Ball State (4-5) will see Notre Dame and Charleston Southern again on Sunday. BSU plays Notre Dame Sunday at 11 and then goes to Charleston Southern's field for a game scheduled at 4 p.m. There's rain in the forecast so be sure to follow on Twitter and check the baseball schedule page for any adjustments.
