MUNCIE, Ind.- - It's championship week for the Ball State track & field program which heads to Kent, Ohio, for the 2019 Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships held Friday & Saturday at the Kent State Field House.
Â
The two-day event, which features athletes from all 12 MAC women's teams and all five MAC men's programs, begins at 10:45 a.m. Friday with the men's heptathlon. Women's events will get underway at 11 a.m. with both the pentathlon and the weight throw.
Â
Six event finals will be contested on the opening day of the meet for the women, including the pentathlon, weight throw, long jump, pole vault, 5,000m and the distance medley relay. The top eight performers from each event score based on a 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 scale.
Â
Friday's preliminary events consist of the 60m, 60m hurdles, 200m, 400m and 800m. The remainder of the event finals will be contested on Saturday.
Â
In the seventh season of automatic qualifying standards, the Cardinals will send 18 student-athletes to Kent State, with 14 competing in individual events and four others entered in just relays.Â
Â
Under the current format, events are capped at 20 participants. If 20 student-athletes did not earn automatic marks in an event, which the Cardinals had five student-athletes do, entrants are selected going down the conference's performance list.
