TIME FOR TIPOFF
- The Ball State women's basketball team had its biweek come early after having to postpone its game against Buffalo Wednesday due to the severe weather conditions in Delaware County. For the first time in almost a decade, Ball State University was closed from Wednesday at 7 a.m. until Thursday, at 11 a.m. It happened to be Buffalo's biweek too so the Cardinals and the Bulls rescheduled the contest for Feb. 20. Ball State will announce the time at a later date.
- Ball State had a commanding lead 58-44 over WMU last Saturday late in the third quarter, but WMU used defense and its 3-point shooting to come back to win the game, 65-62.
- Ohio enters Saturday's game with its seond loss of the season. Prior to today's contest, the Bobcats had been on a five-game winning streak after playing the Cardinals on Jan. 12 in Worthen Arena. The Bobcats won that game against Ball State by a score of 90-75.
- Saturday's game against Ohio will mark the 63rd time in program history the two schools have met with the Bobcats leading the all-time series record, 35-27. The Bobcats have won six-straight over the Cardinals heading into today's contest.
-From 1998-2006 the Cardinals held a nine-game win streak over Ohio.The last time Ball State defeated Ohio was during Brady Sallee's first two seasons at the helm of the Cardinals. Ball State defeated Ohio on Jan. 26, 2013 in Worthen Arena, 77-46 and in Athens on Jan. 18, 2014 by a score of 79-63.
- Currently, Oshlynn Brown is averaging a double-double in MAC action. Brown is averaging 16.0 point per contest while pulling down 11.3 rebounds per game. Brown is coming off of a double-double performance at Buffalo (1/16), at Miami (1/19), vs. Kent State (1/23) and vs. Western Michigan (1/26). Thelma Dis Agustsdottir is also finding success so far during conference play, averaging 12.4 ppg and 5.4 rpg.Â
- Sophomore foward Oshlynn Brown scored her 500th point Saturday at Miami. Brown turned in a 24-point, 10 rebound performance against the RedHawks. For her career, she has 536 points and 422 rebounds. Brown is on pace in rebounding with former forward Nathalie Fontaine. Fontaine ended her sophomore season with 438 rebounds, Brown is only 16 away.Â
ABOUT OHIO
- Ohio was only one of three undefeated teams at the start Mid-American Conference play. The Bobcats were handed their first loss on Jan. 12 at home after Central Michigan defeated the Bobcats by a score of 88-70 in the Convocation Center. Ohio has now lost another game since playing the Cardinals. Miami snapped the Bobcats five-game win streak Wednesday night in Athens, Ohio after defeating Ohio, 67-61.
- Bob Boldon is in his sixth season at the helm of the Bobcats. Boldon has an overall record of 117-60 (.661) at Ohio. Boldon has led the Bobcats to back-to-back Mid-American Conference regular season titles both in 2015 and 2016. Ohio won the MAC Tourney crown in 2015 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.
- Currently Ohio has five players averaging double figures, Cierra Hooks (16.4 ppg), Erica Johnson (14.7 ppg), Gabby Burris (13.1), Dominique Doseck (12.6) and Amani Burke (12.2). Defensively, Burris leads the way pulling down 5.8 rebounds per contest.
NEXT GAME
Wednesday's game against Central Michigan will mark the 78th time the teams have met, with the Chippewas leading the all-time series record, 40-37. The last time Ball State defeated CMU was on Feb. 25, 2017 by a score of 81-73. The Chippewas swept the series from the Cardinals last season. Ball State's largest win streak against Central Michigan was 11 from 2000 thru 2006.
GREEN GETS INDUCTED TO BALL STATE AHTLETICS HALL OF FAME
- The Ball State University athletics department will hold its Hall of Fame event Friday at the Alumni Center. Former women's basketball player Porchia Green will become a member of the elite squad. Green played for the Cardinals form 2005-09, was the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a two time All-MAC selection. Green led the Cardinals to the 2009 MAC Tournament Championship and the school's first trip to the NCAA Tournament. Green ended her career ranked 10th on BSU's all-time scoring list, she helped lead Ball State to a first-round NCAA Tournament win over two-time defending national champion Tennessee.
