Tahjai Teague Named MAC West Player of the Week for Second Time this Season
December 23, 2019 | Men's Basketball
Fifth-year senior helped BSU win at Georgia Tech, posted double-double versus Washington
MUNCIE, Ind. -- After helping Ball State to a win over one power conference team and recording a double-double against another, Tahjai Teague was named the MAC West Division Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Â
Teague averaged 14.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game for the week. The fifth-year senior helped the Cardinals to their second-ever true ACC road win (and second in three years) Wednesday at Georgia Tech and then posted his fourth double-double of the season Sunday against 22nd-ranked Washington.
Â
The Indianapolis native turned in a well-rounded performance on both ends of the floor in Ball State's rout of Georgia Tech in Atlanta. Offensively, he scored nine points on 4-of-7 shooting and matched his career-high with six assists. Defensively, he keyed a BSU effort that limited Georgia Tech to a season-low 47 points and a season-worst 33 percent shooting. The Cardinals led the Yellow Jackets by as many as 30 points in the closing minutes.Â
Â
Teague then scored 20 points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds against Washington in Sunday's opening round of the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic. He did it while matching up inside against a pair of projected NBA first-round picks in Isaiah Stewart and Jaden McDaniels, helping to keep the Cardinals within reach until the Huskies pulled away late.Â
Â
Teague shot 54.5 percent (12-for-22) from the floor for the week while also adding three steals and a pair of blocked shots. He was also named MAC West Player of the Week on Nov. 18 for his performances in wins over UIC and Indiana State.
Â
Ball State continues play at the Diamond Head Classic with a late game Monday against UTEP. The contest is slated to tip at 8:30 p.m. HT (1:30 a.m. ET Tuesday) on ESPNU. The Cardinals will play their final game in Hawaii on Christmas Day.
