Time For Tip-off:
- The Cardinals return to the court Wednesday after having a 10 break from competition to study for final exams. Ball State will be competing at the Lobo Invitational where it will face Loyola Marymount (Wednesday), Providence (Thursday) and New Mexico (Friday). It will be the first-ever meeting for the Cardinals when they play Lions and the Lobos. Ball State and Providence have met only once with the Friars winning the lone contest by a score of 116-88 in 1991-92 at the Rainbow Wahine Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii.
- Ball State last played on Dec. 7 in Worthen Arena against Western Kentucky. The Cardinals put up a good fight but lost to the Lady Toppers in overtime, 86-91. Junior forward Oshlynn Brown notched season highs in both points (22) and rebounds (14) for her fourth double-double of the year.Â
- Junior Oshlynn Brown earned Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week honors on Dec. 10 for the second time this season and third time for her career. Ball State was trailing 75-73 against Western Kentucky with 18.9 seconds, Brown came through with a clutch shot to send the game into overtime. Brown registered her 21st double-double of her career against Western Kentucky.
- After the Lobo Classic, the Cardinals will take some time off for the holiday season. Ball State will then close out non-conference action when Ball State hosts Urbana on Dec. 30 at 7 p.m. in Worthen Arena. Ball State will then open Mid-American Conference action at home on Jan. 4 against Kent State. That game is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
- Ball State enters the Lobo Invitational with a 4-4 overall mark. Loyola Marymount owns a 3-7 overall ledger while Providence is 8-1 and host New Mexico stands at 8-4.
Scouting The Opponents:
• Loyola Marymount is coached by Charity Elliott who is in her eighth season. The Lions own a 3-7 record and are coming off of a 94-46 win over California State University San Bernardino on Dec. 7. Prior to the victory, Loyola Marymount had lost four straight. The Lions are led by guard Chelsey Gipson and forward Raychel Stanley who are both averaging 10.9 points apiece per contest.
• Providence has suffered only one loss this season. The Blue Demons enter the Lobo Invitational with an 8-1 record. Providence's lone loss came against Yale on Dec. 3 where the Blue Demons fell by a score of 79-82. Providence is coached by Jim Crowley who is in his fourth season. The Blue Demons are led by forward Mary Baskerville who is averaging 15.8 points per contest. Providence is the third Big East school the Cardinals have faced this season. Ball State is 2-0 against the Big East with wins over Xavier and Butler.
• This will be the first meeting ever between New Mexico and Ball State. Ball State head coach Brady Sallee and the Lobos head coach Mike Bradbury are longtime friends. Bradbury has led the Lobos to a 64-33 overall mark over the last three seasons. Currently New Mexico owns an 8-4 overall record and are coming off of a 107-53 blowout against New Mexico State Monday night at the Pit. The Lobos four losses came against No. 23 West Virginia (60-73), Boise State (82-83), Wyoming (66-73) and Arizona State (47-84). The Lobos are led by guard/forward Ahlise Hurst who is averaging 13.5 points per contest.Â
Next Game:
• The Cardinals will close their non-conference action at home Dec. 30 against Urbana at 7 p.m. After that, Ball State will remain home for its 2020 Mid-American Conference opener against Kent State on Jan. 4 at 1 p.m. in Worthen Arena.
