Setting the Stage
Ball State visits the site of the 2017 U.S. Open won by Brooks Koepka for the third of five events on its fall schedule.
The Cardinals opened at No. 20 in the Golfweek national rankings after a win at the Golfweek Conference Challenge. They dropped to No. 68 after a tough finishing stretch left them in a tie for 11th at the Trinity Forest Invitational the last time out.
The Marquette Intercollegiate offers an opportunity to move back up, with 10 of the 12 competing teams ranked among the top 115. That doesn't include a UCLA team will be teeing it up for the first time this fall and does not yet have a ranking.
Joey Ranieri and Keegan Bronnenberg have led Ball State in the early going. Both own sub-71 scoring averages and have posted scores of par or better in four of their six rounds. The Cardinals are 3-under par as a team through two events with a team scoring average of 285.5, more than seven strokes lower than last year's school-record mark of 292.62.
Yianni Kostouros and CJ Jones are competing again for the Cardinals this week along with Tyler Green who will make his season debut in the lineup. Freshman Joey Wiseman also gets his first look at collegiate golf, teeing it up as an individual.
