Ball State Baseball Players Name Team Captains
October 25, 2019 | Baseball
Ball State baseball players have named seniors Chase Sebby and John Baker as team captains for the 2020 season.Â
"I couldn't be more pleased with the selection of John and Chase," head coach Rich Maloney said. "Many players received votes which is a testament to the leadership we have on our team. Both Chase and John are true winners. They both demonstrate great work ethic and a "We Before Me" attitude.  It is a honor to be selected as a captain and it comes with a tremendous responsibility to uphold the high standards that are expected in our program."
Sebby and Baker return to form one of the more experienced and potent pitcher-catcher batteries in the Midwest. Sebby was MAC Defensive Player of the Year last season and a second-team all-league selection. Baker, who was drafted by the Miami Marlins in June's MLB Draft, returns to Ball State as one of the more accomplished players in college baseball. He was a first team All-MAC honoree last year after going 7-2 leading the league with a 2.13 ERA. Baker enters his final collegiate season with a 17-9 record and will need 88 strikeouts to break Ball State's all-time career strikeouts record.
Ball State returns six position player starters and three starting pitchers from last season's 38-19 team that finished second in the MAC.
