Chambers Named Top 100 Student by Ball State University Foundation

Senior right-handed pitcher John Chambers has been named a Top 100 Student by the Ball State University Foundation.

The Grain Valley, Mo., native is a premedical preparation major and minoring in kinesiology. On the field, Chambers claimed the win in Ball State's season-opening 4-3 victory over St. John's on Friday with 5.0 scoreless innings out of the bullpen with five strikeouts.

"John exemplifies the true meaning of a student-athlete," Ball State head coach Rich Maloney said. "John is an outstanding student aspiring to become an orthopedic surgeon. Through hard work and determination, John has become one of our top pitchers, but more importantly John is an even better person respected by his teammates and coaches alike. What a great honor for an outstanding young man."

Chambers and the Cardinals went 3-1 during the opening weekend in Florida and are set to play four games at the Swig & Swine College Classic in Charleston, S.C., starting Friday.
