October 24, 2019 | Field Hockey
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team (3-11, 1-3 MAC) will wrap up its regular season road action this weekend when it travels to Longwood on Friday at 6 p.m. and VCU on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Cardinals have been on the road for three weekends straight. Last week, BSU faced Ohio in Mid-American Conference action, falling to the Bobcats, 3-0.
Longwood enters Friday's MAC contest with a 7-8 overall record while owning a 2-2 ledger in conference play. The Lancers' two league wins came against Central Michigan (1-0) and Appalachian State (2-1, OT). The Cardinals fell to the Lancers last year at the Briner Sports Complex in a 3-2 penalty shootout. Junior Rachel Pereira and senior Michelle Shampton each scored a goal for the Cardinals that game. Ball State last defeated Longwood in 2016 by a 2-1 decision in Muncie.
On Sunday, Ball State will play at VCU for the first time since 2015. The Cardinals fell to the Rams that year by a score of 3-2. VCU owns an overall record of 6-8 and is a member of the A-10 conference.
After this weekend, the Cardinals will return home for their regular season and MAC finale on Friday, Nov. 1 against Appalachian State. The game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at the Briner Sports Complex and will be broadcast live on ESPN+. The Cardinals will also pay tribute to their seniors prior to the contest.
