MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team (3-10, 1-2 MAC) returns to Mid-American Conference action Friday when it plays at Ohio (6-5, 3-1 MAC). The game is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
"We played some of our best hockey last weekend," Ball State head field hockey coach Stephanie Bernthal said. "There were true moments of brilliance, including 3 of our best quarters against Michigan. We were also exposed in some ways and have been working hard this week to be ready for a tough MAC opponent in Ohio. They have a dangerous team and I know the team is hungry to get back out on the field and show what they are capable of. Every experience we've had thus far this season has prepared us for what will be a great battle."
The Cardinals played at the Ohio Buckeye Invitational last weekend, facing back-to-back nationally ranked opponents, No. 16 Stanford and No. 11 Michigan. Ball State is tied with Kent State among MAC teams for facing the most nationally ranked opponents this season with five.
Ohio enters Friday's contest having defeated Central Michigan 6-1 last Sunday afternoon in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. Ball State has won the past two meetings with Ohio, including a 3-2 overtime victory last year in Muncie after redshirt junior Rachel Pereira scored the game-winning goal in double overtime.
After this weekend, Ball State continues its five-game road swing when it plays at Longwood in league action Friday, Oct. 25 at 6 p.m.
