Field Hockey Faces Two Top-20 Teams This Weekend

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team (3-8) will take a break from Mid-American Conference action this weekend and will compete at the Buckeye Invitational on the campus of Ohio State.
The Cardinals will face two top-20 teams in Columbus, squaring off with No. 18 Stanford on Saturday and No. 11 Michigan on Sunday. Both games are scheduled for a noon start at Buckeye Varsity Field.
Stanford enters the contest with a 7-5 overall record and 1-0 in the America East Conference. The last time Ball State faced Stanford was in 2001. The Cardinals won the contest 1-0 in Muncie.
Michigan will be the fifth nationally ranked opponent the Cardinals have faced this season. The Wolverines boast an overall record of 8-3 and hold a 2-1 ledger in the Big Ten Conference. Ball State has already faced four Big Ten opponents this season: Rutgers, Indiana, Michigan State and Northwestern. Michigan leads the all-time series against the Cardinals, 17-5. The Wolverines earned a 6-0 shutout in Ann Arbor against Ball State last season.
The Cardinals return to league action after this weekend, traveling to Ohio University on Friday, Oct. 18 at 3 p.m.
