January 22, 2019 | Men's Swimming and Diving, Women's Swimming and Diving
MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State University swimming and diving team managed two first-place finishes, but both the men and women fell to MAC foe Miami as the 2018-19 home slate came to a close.
The women put up 97 points to Miami's 203 while the men secured 63 points to 236 for the Redhawks.
"I didn't think we swam too bad tonight," said head coach J. Agnew. "We'll learn from this and be just fine moving forward."
The night got off to a strong start for the Cardinals as a team made up of Audrey Schank, Mason Dahman, Makenna Bottorff and Peighton Gilbert grabbed 11 points by winning the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:44.92. The men followed that performance by snagging third in the same event.
On the boards, Rachel Bertram and Caitlin Locante claimed second and third in the 1M while Sean Wolfe followed his strong weekend with a third-place finish. Rachel Smallwood took third on the 3M and Wolfe and Hunter Ongay took second and third, respectively.
The next first-place finish for the Cardinals came with Gilbert won the 50 free after clocking in at 24.33.
The night closed with the 200 free relays where the men took third and the women second.
The Cardinals have a busy weekend as they are back in the pool and on the boards this weekend. On Saturday, the team travels to Terre Haute where it will take on both Indiana State and Southern Illinois. On Sunday the men will do battle with Butler and be joined by the women divers.
