Agustsdottir Scores 21 Points In WBB's Loss At Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Four Cardinals reached double figures tonight, with freshman forward Thelma Dis Agustsdottir leading the way scoring 21 points. However, it wasn't enough, as Ball State (6-10, 1-3 MAC) fell to Buffalo (11-4, 3-1 MAC) by a score of 77-65 in Mid-American Conference action Wednesday night in University Arena.
Dis Agustsdottir has scored in double figures the last three contests for the Cardinals. Senior guard Jasmin Samz finished with 12 points while teammates sophomore forward Oshlynn Brown and sophomore guard Maliah Howard-Bass ended the night with 10 points each. Brown led Ball State defensively with 12 rebounds for her 11th career double-double.
Buffalo shot 59 percent (13-of-22) in the opening quarter and out rebounded the Cardinals 12-6. Ball State went toe-to-toe with Buffalo at the start of the contest and would lead 13-12 at the 4:44 mark after Howard-Bass knocked down one from behind the arc. The Bulls caught fire offensively after that, outscoring the Cardinals 21-7 to close out the first quarter. Buffalo took a 33-19 lead heading into the second frame.
The Bulls shot 75 percent (6-of-8) from the 3-point line in the first quarter. Ball State held the Bulls to only 14 percent (1-of-7) beyond the arc in the second frame. The Cardinals continued to struggle offensively and only scored 14 points in the second period. At the break, Ball State found itself trailing the Bulls, 49-33.
Despite efforts, the Cardinals never recovered after their 14-point deficit following the first quarter. Ball State trailed Buffalo by as many as 20 (69-49) heading into the final stanza.
The Ball State women's basketball team will travel to Miami Saturday in Mid-American Conference action. The game is scheduled to tip at 1 p.m. and will be available to watch on ESPN3.
