Cardinals finish 11th in second event of fall schedule
DALLAS -- The Ball State men's golf team turned in its best round of the week to move up one more spot and finish 11th on the final leaderboard at the Trinity Forest Invitational.
Paced by Keegan Bronnenberg's 1-under par 70, the Cardinals shot 286 (+2) Tuesday to finish with a 54-hole total of 865 (+13). BSU also counted a 71 from Timothy Wiseman, a 72 from Yianni Kostouros and a 73 from CJ Jones in the final round.
Baylor closed with a blistering 270 (-14), the lowest round of the week by three shots, to come from six back and nip tournament host SMU by one shot at 824 (-28). The 13-team field featured nine squads that finished last season among the top 100 in the Golfstat rankings.
On a course at Trinity Forest Golf Club that had surrendered low scores in the first two rounds, the players went even lower Tuesday. The average score for the field in the final round was 71.8, bringing the average for the week down to 72.04. The field combined to make nearly 650 birdies and 23 eagles over the three rounds.
Thomas Rosenmueller of North Texas fired his third straight round of 68 or better to come from two shots back and claim medalist honors at 13 under par.
Bronnenberg led Ball State in a tie for 25th place at even-par over the three rounds. He had Tuesday's round as low as 4 under par after an eagle on his 10th hole of the day before giving a few back on the way in and posting his second 70 of the week.
Bronnenberg made two eagles for the tournament and led the field in par-5 scoring at 8 under par for the week. Kostouros played the par 5's in 5 under.
