MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team closes its two-game homestand Monday afternoon when it hosts UC Davis at the Briner Sports Complex.  The contest between the Cardinals and Aggies is scheduled for a 1 p.m. (EST) start.
The Cardinals (0-7) are looking for their first win of the season under first-year head coach Stephanie Bernthal.  Ball State has not played since Saturday, Sept. 15 when it opened Mid-American Conference action at home against Miami University.  The Cardinals fell to the RedHawks by a score of 4-0. Â
Against Miami, the Cardinals opened the contest with a strong defense effort for the first 15 minutes of action.  Unfortunately, the RedHawks finally got their offense going scoring three goals to take a 3-0 lead heading into intermission.  Ball State held Miami to only one goal in the second half and offensively had its chances to as three Cardinals got shots off but could not connect on the cage.  Defensively, goalkeeper Grace Chavez had 12 saves, just one shy of her season high.
UC Davis enters Monday's contest with a 5-6 overall record. Â The Aggies are coming off a 3-0 win against fellow MAC affiliate Central Michigan Friday in Athens, Ohio. Â UC Davis played Ohio prior to that game which resulted in a 1-0 loss for the Aggies.
After Monday, the Ball State field hockey team heads to North Carolina for two games against Appalachian State (Sept. 28) and University of North Carolina (Sept. 30).
