Drey Jameson Shuts Out Eastern Michigan in 5-0 Win
April 08, 2018 | Baseball
YPSILANTI, Mich. – Freshman pitcher Drey Jameson helped the Ball State baseball team salvage the final game of the series with Eastern Michigan Sunday with a dominating performance in the 5-0 victory.
Jameson went the complete distance, struck out 10 batters and held Eastern Michigan (10-18, 5-4 MAC) to five hits. At one point the righty retired 12 consecutive batters. He finished the game by striking out Jared Kauffman for the third time and stranding two runners on base. Jameson is the first Ball State pitcher to throw a complete game shutout since BJ Butler blanked Dayton in a 6-0 win on March 18, 2017.
Jameson has now gone 16 consecutive innings without allowing a run. In his previous start, he held Central Michigan scoreless in 6.0 innings of work while striking out eight.
Ball State (15-15, 4-5) got Jameson all the run support he would need in the fourth inning. Redshirt freshman Tim Blankenberger plated junior William Baker with a one-out RBI single.
The Cardinals put together some two-out magic in the seventh to extend the cushion to 3-0. After the first two batters were retired, junior Chase Sebby got the rally going with a single. Senior Jeff Riedel followed with an RBI double to the left center field gap. Two batters later, Baker singled to left field to score Riedel.
Riedel scored the final run of the game on a wild pitch in the ninth inning.
Sebby, Riedel, Baker and sophomore Noah Powell each had two hits to lead the Ball State offense. Sebby finished with a .455 batting average (5-of-11) for the series with two doubles and two runs scored.
Ball State stays on the road for its next contest. The Cardinals travel to Purdue to face the Boilermakers on Tuesday, April 10. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
