EMU Takes Game Two of Series on Walk-Off Single, 6-5
April 07, 2018 | Baseball
YPSILANTI, Mich. – For the second straight day, Eastern Michigan pulled out a one-run win over the Ball State baseball team, this time by a count of 6-5 Saturday afternoon at Oestrike Stadium.
Ball State (14-15, 3-5 MAC) took the lead in the top of the eighth and ninth innings, but could not keep Eastern Michigan (10-17, 5-3) from rallying. Sacrifice fly balls from seniors Jeff Riedel and Colin Brockhouse put the Cardinals in front after the top of the eighth inning, 4-3. EMU's Max Schuemann answered in the bottom of the frame with a two-out RBI double to level the game at 4-all.
In the ninth, senior Justin Kirkpatrick came through with an RBI single to once again put Ball State on top, 5-4. The Cardinals threatened to score even more as they were able to load the bases with two outs. However, Brockhouse skied a ball to right field to end the inning.
Ball State pitchers issued 11 walks in the game, including the first two batters in the bottom of the ninth inning. After a sacrifice bunt and intentional walk loaded the bases, Eastern Michigan secured the win with a hit batter and Jared Kauffman walk-off single.
Junior William Baker finished with a pair of hits and two RBIs for the Cardinals. Riedel scored twice while catcher Chase Sebby notched two hits and threw out three base runners.
Ball State will look to return to the win column and avoid sweep tomorrow, April 8. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
