April 19, 2018 | Field Hockey
MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State field hockey head coach Stephanie Bernthal had announced the addition of Chelsea Davies as an assistant coach for the Cardinals.
"I am thrilled to welcome Chelsea Davies to the Ball State Cardinal family," Bernthal said. "I have had the privilege of working with Chelsea at the University of Richmond and watching her grow from new coach to seasoned veteran. Chelsea has work ethic and character that are second-to-none."
Davies and Bernthal worked together at the University of Richmond, where Davies served as an assistant coach and Director of Operations. Her duties included being a liaison between academic advisors and student-athletes along with breaking down game film and aiding in the recruitment process. A highlight of her time with the Spiders was working with Meg Miller, who made the2016 PanAm Games roster for Team USA U-21.
"She has the remarkable ability of identifying future potential in prospects and helping student-athletes maximize that potential on and off the field once they arrive on campus" Bernthal added. "Her ability to teach the game technically and tactically will raise every Ball State athlete to new heights. I couldn't ask for a better addition to our staff."
Other coaching experiences for Davies include time with USA Field Hockey Futures, Panthers United FHC and the Edge Field Hockey Club. While with the Edge Field Hockey Club she coached the U19 team to a gold medal at national tournament in 2010 and 2012.
Davies played four years collegiately at Richmond where she served as team captain for two straight years. She earned first team all-conference three times, All-South Region two times and all-state once. Davies was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year and second team all-conference in 2010. While at Richmond, Davies helped her team to a conference championship and NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearance in 2011. She was also a member of the 2010 USA Field Hockey Junior National Team.
Davies has a bachelor of arts in psychology from Richmond and is currently working on her master's degree through North Dakota State University. She is expected to earn her master's in youth development later this year.
