MUNCIE, Ind. - - With spring right around the corner, the Ball State track & field program turns its attention to the outdoor season starting Saturday at the Stan Lyons Invitational hosted by Butler.
Â
The 13-team meet gets underway at 11 a.m. at Davey Track & Field with the shot put and javelin. Action on the track starts at 1 p.m. with the 4x100m relay.
Â
In addition to the Cardinals and host Bulldogs, Dayton, Evansville, Indiana, IUPUI, Loyola, Morehead State, Northern Kentucky, Taylor, Toledo, Wright State and Xavier are schedule to have student-athletes entered in the meet.
Â
Despite temperatures forecasted to be in the low to mid 40s most of the day, the Cardinals are set to compete in 12 of the meet's 16 events.
Â
Freshman Abby Denham will help get the Cardinals started with her debut performance in the javelin, while sophomore Kelsey Walters and freshman Jada Caldwell compete in the shot put. Reigning Mid-American Conference champion junior Regan Lewis and freshman Hailley Peters will both compete in the high jump to round out Ball State's field event participants.
Â
The Cardinals are slated to enter three squads in the first track event, the 4x100m relay, with defending MAC outdoor 100m dash champion Peyton Stewart anchoring Ball State's A relay.
Â
Ball State's busiest event will be the 3,000m run, with seven Cardinals entered in the event led by sophomore Maritza Rodriguez who placed 12th at the MAC indoor championships last month with a time of 10:02.51.
