
Women's Tennis Suffer 4-3 Loss To Western Kentucky

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team (5-3) suffered a 4-3 loss to Western Kentucky (3-2) Sunday afternoon at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
The Cardinals started the match off strong after taking the doubles point from the Hilltoppers. WKU took the win on the top court from Ball State but the Cardinals managed to even the score after Audrey Berger and Rebecca Herrington registered a 6-2 defeat against Natalie De Ugarte and Elpida Malamou at the No. 2 spot. The No. 3 twosome of Lilya Hadab and Peyton Gollhofer then clinched the point with the duo's win over Violetta Shatalova and Cindy Oest.
Western Kentucky took the lead early in singles play after earning wins on courts two and four. Hadab then evened the match 2-2 with her three set thriller on court six over Oest. The Hilltoppers pushed their lead to 3-2 after earning a straight set defeat over Sarah Swiderski on court one. After that, Western Kentucky's No. 5 singles player De Ugarte beat Victoria Sec for the victory. Berger would be the last singles match on the court, she came back after losing the first set 6-2 to defeat Monica Malinen, 6-4, 6-3.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues non-conference action at Youngstown State University on Saturday at 2 p.m.
