Track & Field Picks Up Three Event Wins at Ball State Tune-Up

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State track & field team closed the indoor portion of the regular season by winning three events and turning in 12 career-best efforts at the Ball State Tune-Up Friday evening in the Field Sports Building.

With several of its top performers out of the lineup to prepare for next weekend's Mid-American Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships (Feb. 23-24) hosted by Bowling Green, the Cardinals also finished the four-team meet with 19 top five finishes.

Ball State's best performance came in the weight throw, with senior Adrienne Mayfield taking the top spot with a career-best throw of 17.18m. It's the fourth-best individual performance in program history and currently ranks 13th on the MAC performance list.

The Cardinals also scored a pair of runner-up finishes in the field events, with freshman Jada Caldwell finishing second in the shot put with a career-best distance of 13.61m and freshman Hailley Peters taking silver in the high jump at 1.63m. With her effort, Caldwell climbed to 15th on MAC indoor performance list.

On the track, sophomore Bryeana Byrdsong picked up Ball State's second individual win of the day, taking top billing in the 200m dash with a time of 25.20. Byrdsong's time was half a second fast than the second-place finisher.

The Cardinals' final event win came in the 3000m run, which also saw Ball State take the top three spots. Freshman Cayla Eckenroth paced the team's runners with a time of 10:40.02.

Overall, Ball State finished the meet with a 2-1 dual record, defeating Fort Wayne (80-19) and Wright State (80-38), while falling to Western Michigan (82-31).
