Kyle Mallers Named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week

Junior forward owns 3.6 GPA in finance, has started every game
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State men's basketball player Kyle Mallers was selected as the Mid-American Conference Male Scholar Athlete of the Week.

Mallers, an Academic All-MAC and MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete choice last season, carries a 3.64 GPA as a finance major. The junior forward was also named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week once last year.Â

The award winner is selected each week from a pool of nominees from each MAC-sponsored sport currently in season.

Mallers helped Ball State to a victory last week at 2018 Final Four team Loyola Chicago. The Cardinals are 6-4 on the year, including five straight wins before Sunday's setback at Evansville.

Mallers has started every game for Ball State dating back to the beginning of last season. The Fort Wayne, Indiana, product averages 8.8 points and 4.2 rebounds per game this year. He is one of the Cardinals' best outside threats at 36.2 percent from 3-point range and the team's top foul shooter at 85 percent from the stripe.

Ball State is off from competition this week for final exams. The Cardinals play again Monday at Valparaiso and return home Thursday, Dec. 20 to host Howard.
