Bertram’s Career Performance Highlights Final Day of Miami Invitational
December 01, 2018 | Men's Swimming and Diving, Women's Swimming and Diving
OXFORD, Ohio – Both the men and women of the Ball State University swimming and diving team held their positions from day two, and the men finished fourth while the women finished fifth at the Miami Invitational on Saturday night.
The men totaled 437.5 points for the competition while the women finished with 441.5.
The highlight of the day was junior Rachel Bertram's performance on the 1M. Bertram finished second overall in the competition with a career-best score of 300.55. It was the first time she broke the 300 mark and her score was just 1.35 points off the school record.
"Rachel Bertram was absolutely lights out tonight," said diving coach Nick Gayes. "She went toe-to-toe with one of the better divers in our zone. It should be a huge confidence boost to her as we head into winter training and the back half of the season."
On the men's side of things, Hunter Ongay set a career best on the 3M a day after completing a personal record on the 1M.
In the pool, Katie Walker finished in seventh in the women's 1650 Free and Elizabeth Graham followed right behind her. Davis Meyn likewise finished seventh in the same event for the men. Logan Ackley finished ninth in the 200 Back with a time of 1:56.01 and Cullen Tyler finished fifth in the 200 Breast, clocking in at 2:05.12.
Ball State now takes a break for winter training and will pick up again on Jan. 18 when the men take on Evansville in Muncie and the night after when both the men and women host Miami.
