MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's basketball had its best defensive showing of the season, holding Bowling Green to only 19.7 percent shooting from the field in the Cardinals' 82-41 win over the Falcons Wednesday night in Worthen Arena.
The 19.7 percent was the lowest field goal percentage the Cardinals has held their opponent to from the floor dating back to the 2002-03 season. Ball State held Kent State to 24.0 percent on Jan. 12, 2014 and Buffalo to 24.2 percent on Jan. 17, 2015. The Cardinals have scored 80-plus points in 11 out of its 19 games this season.

Senior forward Moriah Monaco led both teams in scoring with a 23-point performance while also pulling down 10 rebounds for a double-double. Junior guard Carmen Grande finished the night with 12 points and nine assists while senior guard Frannie Frazier rounded out the double digit scoring with 10 points. Freshman guard Oshlynn Brown led Ball State defensively with 12 boards.
Ball State opened the game with back-to-back baskets from Grande and Monaco. After that, the Cardinals would go cold from the floor allowing Bowling Green to quickly even the score, 5-5. By the media timeout, both teams had struggled from the field, only shooting 33.3 percent. The Cardinals were able to find some success in the paint, outscoring the Falcons (14-to-4) and would take a 20-9 lead heading into the second stanza.
The Cardinals made a run during the second quarter, as both Monaco and Grande made their impact during a 13-0 scoring spree by the halfway mark. Ball State's tight defense held Bowling Green to 11 points at the half and only four points in the second quarter. It marked the best defensive showing the Cardinals have had this season. The Cardinals used their early second frame scoring spree to take a commanding 45-13 lead over the Falcons at intermission.
Ball State extended its lead to 64-26 in the third frame and would continue to cruise through the final period for the 41-point win over the Falcons.
