Late Goal Pushes La Salle Over Cardinals

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.– The Ball State field hockey team traveled to Hank DeVincent Field Friday afternoon for the first of two weekend contests. The Cardinals fell to La Salle University,1-0.
Ball State tallied seven shots and three shots on goal, but was unable to connect with the back of the cage. La Salle was able to rack up nine shots and seven shots on goal.
Carley Shannon led the way with two shots and two shots on goal. Darbi Gullett added two shots while Michelle Shampton tallied one shot and one shot on goal. Sierra Jefferson also added one shot.
Ball State was unable to capitalize on their three penalty corners. The Explorers were given opportunities on eight penalty corners and were also unable to connect.
With less than two minutes remaining, La Salle's Jess Hoffman got a shot past the Cardinals to score the game winning goal.
In the cage, freshman Grace Chavez tallied up six saves.
The Ball State field hockey team will stay on the East Coast as they take on Leigh Sunday, Sept. 10. Game time is set for noon.
