Cross Country Ready to Rumble at Miami
September 22, 2017 | Cross Country
MUNCIE, Ind. - - It will be all go for Ball State cross country Saturday, as the team travels to Oxford, Ohio for the RedHawk Rumble at the Miami University Cross Country Course.
The women's 6K race is scheduled to start at noon and will feature the Cardinals, host RedHawks and Kent State.
"Saturday's meet will give us an excellent opportunity to scout the course which will host the MAC Championships at the end of October," distance coach Raynee DeGrio said. "It will also give us a chance to compete against a pair of MAC schools we have not seen yet this season. The team has trained extremely hard over the last two weeks, and we are excited to see how much progress we have made."
After sending limited runners to last weekend's Indiana Intercollegiate hosted by Purdue, 13 of the Cardinals' 14 student-athletes are slated to lace up their shoes for Saturday's meet.
In the first three meets of the season, three different runners have led the Cardinals to the finish line.
Freshman Cayla Eckenroth made the most of her collegiate debut, crossed the finish line in 18:27.3 to take second place among the 41 runners at the 5K Butler Twilight (Sept. 1).
Sophomore Maritza Rodriguez shaved nearly 15 seconds off her previous career-best 5K time to lead the Cardinals at the Illinois State University Country Financial Invitational (Sept. 8), crossing the finish line in 18:29.2 to place 22nd among scored runners in the 90-competitor field.
Senior Jordan Timmons became the third different runner to lead Ball State to the finish line this season at the Indiana Intercollegiate Championships (Sept. 15), Â placing 18th among scored runners in the 30-compeitor Big State field with a 6K time of 24:50.8.
