Cardinals Fall to No. 16 Boston in Miami Invitational

MUNCIE, Ind.– The Ball State field hockey team couldn't fight off 16th ranked Boston University Saturday afternoon in its first contest of the Miami Invitational. The Cardinals fell to the Terriers 2-1.
Redshirt freshman Sierra Jefferson was the lone Cardinal to score in the contest. Jefferson scored in the seventh minute of the game on a rebound off a corner. She also marked one shot and one shot on goal. Carley Shannon was the other Cardinal with one shot and one shot on goal.
Ball State only tallied two shots while Boston recorded 17. Boston also had the edge with 11 penalty corners compared to Ball State's one.
Boston's Kara Enoch was the first to score for the Terriers, scoring in the 16th minute off a deflection. Grace Boston scored the go-ahead and winning goal for Boston in the 31st minute.
In the cage, freshman Grace Chavez earned her third career start and notched four saves on the day.
The Ball State field hockey team (2-1 overall) will continue to play in the Miami Invitational tomorrow (Sept. 3) when they take on UMass-Lowell at noon.
