Field Hockey Wraps Up Weekend with Another Impressive Victory

MUNCIE, Ind.– Coming off a 5-0 win over Saint Louis on Friday, the Ball State field hockey team continued that momentum into Sunday's contest against Ohio. The Cardinals took down the Bobcats 4-1 at Briner Sports Complex.
Senior Carley Shannon put the Cardinals on the board first by connecting on a penalty corner. Shannon was assisted by Anya Eicher and Michelle Shampton. Ohio's Karynne Baker evened the score in the 29th minute with her second goal of the season.
Sierra Jefferson scored her second goal of the season to pull ahead of Ohio 2-1. Shampton was the next to connect with the back of the cage off a Jenna McKune assist. Shampton finished the day with three shots, one goal and one assist.
In the 60th minute of the game, co-captain Anya Eicher placed the dagger by scoring Ball State's fourth goal on a penalty stroke. In the cage, goalkeeper Grace Chavez tallied three saves.
Ohio finished the contest with six penalty corners while Ball State finished with three.
The Ball State field hockey team will suit up again when they travel to Oxford, Ohio to take on Boston University (Sep. 2) and UMass-Lowell (Sep. 3).
