Jen Brown-Mascari Named to the 2017 MAC Hall of Fame Class

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced the 2017 Hall of Fame Induction Class Thursday afternoon and a former Cardinal made the list. Field hockey's Jen Brown-Mascari will be one of the six members inducted into the MAC Hall of Fame on May 31, 2017 during the MAC Honors Dinner at the Cleveland Renaissance Hotel.
Brown-Mascari helped the Cardinals to a 70-19-2 overall record, including an undefeated 45-0 record against Mid-American Conference opponents, while playing for head coach Karen Fitzpatrick. The four-year letter winner started all 91 games during her career and tallied the game-winning goal seven times, while also producing seven career hat tricks. She was inducted into the Ball State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2006.
Brown-Mascari capped off her Ball State field hockey career by receiving the 1997-98 Woody Hayes National Female Scholar-Athlete Award, which is selected from all female NCAA Division I student-athletes in all sports. She was part of a class which notched four MAC Championships and three berths in the NCAA Tournament, including two Final Eight appearances. The midfielder was also selected to participate in the 1997 NFHCA Senior All-Star Game and was named to the All-Midwest Region First Team three consecutive seasons (1995-97).
The 1996 MAC Player of the Year, Brown-Mascari earned All-MAC First Team honors her final three seasons, after being named to the All-MAC Second Team her freshman year. She was also the second player in school history to earn MAC Freshman of the Year in 1994, and tallied 12 MAC Player of the Week honors by the end of her senior campaign.
Brown-Mascari excelled both on and off the field, earning GTE At-Large Academic All-America First Team honors (1996-97), Academic All-MAC First Team recognition (1995-97) and National Academic Team accolades (1995-97). She earned the 1997 MAC Presidential Award for Academic Excellence, was a two-time MAC Commissioner's Award for Academic Excellence honoree (1995-96) and was named to GTE At-Large Academic All-District V accolades in 1996 and 1997.
Since her graduation, Brown has taught and coached at both Culver Military Academy and Guerin Catholic School. She was named the 2002-03 Ball State Alumnus Softball Coach of the Year and was inducted into the Ball State Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006.
Brown graduated in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science in physical education and currently resides in Indianapolis, Ind. She is married to husband, Tom, and they have three children.
