Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season Saturday at Stan Lyons Invitational
March 17, 2017 | Track & Field
MUNCIE, Ind. - - After turning in its best performance at the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships since the 2009 season, the Ball State track & field team looks to carry over the momentum into the outdoor season which begins Saturday at the Stan Lyons Invitational hosted by Butler.
Â
The 11-team meet is set to begin at 11 a.m. with action in several field events, while running events begin at 1 p.m. Set to join the Cardinals and host Bulldogs are Cardinal Stritch, Eastern Kentucky, Grace College, IUPUI, Loyola, Marian, Illinois-Chicago, Wright State and Xavier.
Â
With temperatures forecasted to be in the low to mid 40s most of the day, the Cardinals will focus on a majority of the meet's longer events including eight entries in the 3000m run.
Â
Only one of Ball State's three medalists from the MAC Indoor Championships is scheduled to compete individually, with sophomore Regan Lewis (Greenfield, Ind./Greenfield-Central) looking to continue her assault on Ball State's high jump records. Lewis capped the indoor season by clearing a program-record height of 1.81m (5-11.25) to place second in the high jump at the league meet. She enters Saturday's Stan Lyons Invitational with a career-best outdoor clearance of 1.68m (5-6).
Â
Danielle Dahl (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea) will also return to the track Saturday, as she opens her senior outdoor campaign by running in the 400m run. Dahl, who entered the year with only outdoor eligibility, is Ball State's top 800m runner placing fourth at the MAC outdoor meet as a junior in 2015 with a career-fast time of 2:11.81.
Â
Ball State's student-athletes are also slated to compete in the 800m run, the 1500m run, the 400m hurdles, the 4x100m relay, the 4x400m relay, the shot put and the discus over the course of Saturday's outdoor opener.
