Men’s Golf Holds 36-Hole Lead at Pinehurst

Michael VanDeventer cards hole-in-one, four Cardinals in top 10

VILLAGE OF PINEHURST, N.C. -- Michael VanDeventer recorded a hole-in-one, and a shorthanded Ball State men's golf team positioned itself atop the leaderboard Friday at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate.
The Cardinals have four golfers among the top 10. Johnny Watts and Timothy Wiseman are tied for fifth at 146 (+4), while VanDeventer and Michael Makris are tied for ninth at 149 (+7).
Ball State played the second round without an injured Keegan McKinney. The Cardinals still managed to fire the lowest score of any team by five strokes.
Watts shot an even-par 71 in the opening round, while Makris and Wiseman were level in the second round. VanDeventer carded a hole-in-one, his first in competition, on the par-3 13th hole at Pinehurst No. 8.
Ball State owns a 36-hole total of 590 and leads Old Dominion by one stroke. Elon is five shots back in third place in the 14-team field.
Matt Naumec of Boston College holds the individual lead at 1 over par, three strokes ahead of Watts and Wiseman with 18 holes to play.
