Kyle Mallers Named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week

Sophomore forward owns 3.8 GPA, averages 11.6 points per game
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Sophomore forward Kyle Mallers of the Ball State men's basketball team was selected as the Mid-American Conference Male Scholar Athlete of the Week.

Mallers carries a 3.815 GPA as a business administration major. He averaged 12.0 points and 9.0 rebounds last week in helping Ball State to a pair of wins.

The Fort Wayne native notched his first career double-double Saturday with 12 points and 11 rebounds in an 83-64 victory over IUPUI. Earlier in the week, he registered 12 points, seven boards and two blocked shots in an 81-57 win over Oakland City.

Mallers finished the week shooting 50 percent from the floor and a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line.

He continued his solid play Tuesday night, scoring eight points and grabbing four rebounds in the Cardinals' win at No. 8 Notre Dame.

Mallers has made a huge jump as a sophomore, raising his scoring average nearly 10 full points from a season ago to rank second on the Ball State team at 11.6 points per game for the year.

Ball State is riding a four-game winning streak and returns to Worthen Arena to host Valparaiso at 2 p.m. Saturday on Toys for Tots Military & Public Safety Appreciation Day.
