
Cardinals Set Season Highs in Weekend Meet at Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Ball State women's swimming and diving team traveled to Toledo, Ohio Saturday afternoon to take on Toledo and Oakland in a double dual meet. The Cardinals fell to the Rockets, 207.50-92.50. Ball State also fell to the Grizzlies with a final score of 204-96.
Sophomore Rachel Bertram was a bright spot for the Cardinals today with two first place finishes. Bertram earned first place overall in both the 1 and 3-meter dives. Bertram earned nine points with her score of 243.45 in the 1-meter board. Bertram qualified for the NCAA Diving Zones with her season best score of 292.65 in the 3-meter.
Sophia Bader was another Cardinal sophomore to post a season high in Saturday's meet. Bader recorded a time of 2:08.59 in the 200 butterfly to earn fourth overall, but second against Oakland. Bader also marked a season best time in the 100 fly (58.17).
Three freshmen marked their season bests against Toledo and Oakland. Audrey Schank posted a season best time of 2:08.62 in the 200 backstroke to earn third place against Oakland and fourth against Toledo. Cailin Merck earned a third place spot against Oakland with her season best time of 2:29.18 in the 200 breaststroke. Kayla Molnar was the other newcomer to post a season best time when she marked a time of 5:15.51 in the 500 freestyle. Molnar also posted a first place finish against Toledo in the 1000 free with a time of 10:45.18.
The Cardinals had success in their relays Saturday afternoon as well. In the 200 medley relay, the Cardinals had a third place overall finish with a time of 1:44.90. The 200 medley relay squad was made up of Schank, Amanda Kedzierski, Andrea Richter, and Peighton Gilbert. Kedzierski, Gilbert and Richter joined Anne Vormohr in the 400 freestyle relay to earn fourth place overall (3:36.92).
The Cardinals finished the day with a total of 19 season best times and scores. Other notable season highs included Kedzierski in the 100 freestyle (53.97), Gilbert in the 100 freestyle (54.30), Audrey Mayer in the 200 free (2:00.85) and 200 backstroke (2:14.39) and Maryn Meldrum in the 100 fly (58.17).
"We were disappointed to not earn a win today, but we had some victories with our time drops and progress on the boards," said head coach Kristy Patterson. "Toledo and Oakland raced well and showed up ready to go. We are seeing consistency from week to week, and our time drops are moving us up in the conference standings. Our medley relays have been strong for us, which is always a good way to start the meet."
The Cardinals will return home Friday, Nov. 10 to take on Illinois State at 6 p.m. The Ball State women's swimming and diving team will then host Tiffin in a co-ed meet on Saturday, Nov. 11. Meet time is set for 1 p.m.
