MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State field hockey team is returning home after an eight game road trip. The Cardinals will take on Kent State in the team's first Mid-American Conference action on Friday, Oct. 6. Ball State will stay at Briner Sports Complex for Sunday's action against No. 10 Northwestern.
The Cardinals took on Kent State twice last season, falling to the Golden Flashes both times. The first contest took place in Kent, Ohio. Ball State fell, 3-1, with Mikayla Mooney scoring the lone goal for the Cards. The second time the teams met was in the MAC Tournament in November. The number one seeded Golden Flashes took down the Cardinals, 2-1.
Ball State will also be seeking revenge on the Wildcats of Northwestern. Last season, the Cardinals fell to the then No. 17 Wildcats, 5-0, in Evanston, Ill.
So far this season, the Cardinals are second in the conference in goals allowed just behind Longwood. Ball State has only allowed 16 goals so far this season.
Freshman Grace Chavez has made her presence known in the cage this season. Chavez is second in the conference in goals against average, only averaging 2.10 goals per game. The Virginia native is also second in the conference with an impressive .742 save percentage.
