Ball State Women’s Swimming and Diving Wins Indiana Intercollegiate Meet

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.—The Ball State women's swimming and diving team opened up the 2017-18 regular season Saturday afternoon at the Indiana Intercollegiate Meet. The Cardinals placed atop five other schools.
"I am very proud of our athletes for earning the win today," said head coach Kristy Patterson. "We were able to see some depth in our squad by taking 1-2-3 in multiple events. The progress and time drops were nice to see from our Red-White meet. We need to keep training hard to prepare for Ohio next week in our home pool."
Ball State earned first place in the 200 medley relay with a squad made up of Audrey Schank, Amanda Kedzierski, Andrea Richter and Anne Vormohr at 1:46.47.
Rachel Bertram also earned a first place finish in the 1-meter dive with a score of 261.10, earning the team 20 points. Bertram was atop the leader board in the 3-meter dive as well with a score of 276.50. Caitlin Locante had a good performance in her first regular season collegiate meet. Locante placed seventh in the 1-meter (172.15) and third in the 3-meter (218.65).
In the 200 freestyle, Ball State earned second and third place. Liz Madison touched the wall at 1:58.97, earning her team 17 points. Right behind her was Kayla Molnar with a time of 1:59.21. Cassidy Blackwin, Lauren Elston, Audrey Mayer, and Morgan Brebberman were the other Cardinals who finished in the top 16 in that event.
The Cardinals went 1-2-3 in the 50 freestyle. Peighton Gilbert finished first with a final time of 24.55. Kedzierski touched the wall next at 24.71, earning 17 points. Vormohr was third in the event at 24.73.
Ball State had five place in the top 16 in the 200 yard IM. Sophie Bader finished first with a time of 2:12.32 while Maryn Meldrum marked a time of 2:16.42. Traci Muszalski and Cailin Merck finished sixth and seventh respectively. Mason Dahman finished 10 with a time of 2:20.22, earning the Cardinals seven points.
Ball State went 1-2-3 again in the 500 freestyle. Kayla Molnar touched the wall first at 5:16.34. Liz Madison was the next to finish with a time of 5:18.98, earning 17 points. Cassidy Blackwin came in third with a time of 5:20.51.
Other top finishes on the day were Andrea Richter in the 100 butterfly (57.42), Maryn Meldrum in the 100 butterfly (58.38), Sophie Bader in the 100 butterfly (58.47), Peighton Gilbert in the 100 freestyle (54.74), Amanda Kedzierski in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.53) and Audrey Schank in the 100 backstroke (57.81).
The Cardinals rounded out the day with a first place finish in the 200 freestyle relay. Elston, Bader, Madison and Gilbert came together for a final time of 1:38.96.
The Ball State women's swimming and diving squad will suit up again on Saturday, Oct. 28 at noon. The Cardinals will take on the Ohio Bobcats at Lewellen Aquatic Center.
