Women’s Swimming and Diving Falls to Ohio at Home

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State women's swimming and diving team hosted Ohio Saturday afternoon for its first home meet of the season. The Cardinals fell to the Bobcats with a final score of 185-114.
Ball State had three Cardinals mark first place finishes. Audrey Schank recorded a time of 57.60 to earn the top spot in the 100 backstroke. Amanda Kedzierski earned first place in the 100 breaststroke after posting a time of 1:04.96. Rachel Bertram earned herself two first place finishes on the board. Bertram marked a score of 256.80 in the 1-meter dive and a score of 249.23 in the 3-meter dive. Schank and Kedzierski also added other impressive times to the day. Schank earned herself a second place finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:09.50. Kedzierski was a third place finisher in the 100 freestyle after touching the wall at 54.11.
In the relays, Ball State had two second place finishes. To start off the meet, the Cardinals posted a time of 3:53.09 in the 400 medley relay. The 400 medley relay was made up of Schank, Kedzierski, Andrea Richter and Peighton Gilbert. Kedzierski, Gilbert and Schank were also part of the second place finish in the 400 freestyle relay along with Anne Vormohr. This squad recorded a time of 3:36.56.
Other notable finishers on the day included Sophie Bader, Kayla Molnar, Andrea Richter, Peighton Gilbert and Anne Vormohr. Bader finished second in the 200 butterfly (2:09.25), fourth in the 100 butterfly (58.97) and fourth in the 200 IM (2:12.90). Richter added second and third place finishes on top of her efforts in the relays. Richter marked a time of 58.86 in the 100 backstroke and a time of 57.63 in the 100 butterfly. Molnar finished third in the in the 1000 freestyle (10:51.91) and fourth in the 500 free (5:19.38). Gilbert earned second and fourth place finishes in the 50 freestyle and in the 100 freestyle. She marked a time of 24.31 in the 50 free and a time of 54.97 in the 100 free. Vormohr had two third place individual finishes in the 200 backstroke (2:10.11) and in the 50 freestyle (24.39).
"This was a good starting point for our dual meets," said head coach Kristy Patterson. "We had the opportunity to see some events for the first time this season. There were some time drops from last week and our relays were able to compete well. Our strengths showed, but some of our weaknesses were exposed as well. Ohio raced well and got the job done to be the ones on top today."
The Cardinals will travel to Toledo, Ohio Saturday, Oct. 4 to take on the Rockets of Toledo and Oakland. Meet time is set for 1 p.m.
