Appalachian State Spoils Field Hockey Senior Day

MUNCIE, Ind.– The Ball State field hockey team celebrated senior day Saturday afternoon prior to the MAC contest against Appalachian State. The Cardinals were unable to take down the Mountaineers and fell with a final score of 3-2.
The Cardinals tallied 4 shots on the day, three of which were on goal. Ball State also added one assist, six penalty corners and a defensive save from Marjolein Dekker.
Ball State struck first in the 14th minute. Hillary Scott notched her second goal of the season after connecting with the cage off a penalty corner. Rachel Pereira was credited with the assist. Just five minutes later, the Mountaineers answered with a Veerle Van Heertum goal. The teams went into half with a score of 1-1.
Appalachian State took the lead in the 42nd minute on an open drive goal from the middle of the circle. The Mountaineers expanded their lead to 3-1 after connecting on a penalty corner in the 53rd minute.
Hannah Bohn scored her first goal of the season in the 63rd minute to bring the Cardinals back within one. It was a close and intense second half, but Ball State was unable to force overtime.
Freshman goalkeeper Grace Chavez recorded six saves on the day.
The Ball State field hockey team will round out home action on Friday, Oct. 27 at 3 p.m. The Cardinals will take on Central Michigan at Briner Sports Complex.
