Bo Calhoun Signs Pro Contract in Luxembourg
August 19, 2016 | Men's Basketball
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Former Ball State men's basketball player Bo Calhoun has signed a professional contract with BBC Arantia Larochette in Luxembourg. He will travel to Europe next week to begin training for the 2016-17 season.
“I feel blessed at the opportunity to play professionally,” Calhoun said. “Outside of graduating college in four years, this was another big dream of mine.
“Arantia has shown interest in me for a while, and they reached out last week to ask me to come on board,” Calhoun said. “It's a good league, and I know they have some good players. It will take me a while to get used to a different environment, but I'm looking forward to it.”
Calhoun averaged 10.7 points and a team-high 8.5 rebounds per game as a senior last season. The 6-foot-5 post player helped the Cardinals to a share of the Mid-American Conference West Division championship and the quarterfinals of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT).
A product of South Bend, Indiana, Calhoun made tremendous strides during his college career. After playing fewer than 10 minutes per game over his first two years, he averaged double figures over the past two seasons as he became a fixture on the floor.
“I'm really proud of Bo for earning this opportunity to play professional basketball,” Ball State coach James Whitford said. “Bo represents everything a college basketball coach wants, a guy who cares about the game, does it the right way and graduated in four years as a terrific student. He really earned his way to being a starter and a key player on a very good team here.”
Calhoun scored 772 points over his four years while ending his career ranked fourth on Ball State's all-time list for games played (119) and 14th for rebounds (605). He graduated in May with a degree in general studies.
Arantia Larochette begins its 2016-17 season Oct. 1. You can track Calhoun and his team at eurobasket.com.
