Cardinals Edge Buffalo in 10 Innings, 4-2
April 30, 2016 | Baseball
BUFFALO, N.Y. – Junior Alex Call came through with the go-ahead triple in the top of the 10th inning to propel the Ball State baseball team to a 4-2 win at Buffalo Friday afternoon.
Redshirt freshman Roman Baisa led off the frame with a single to right field. Call followed with his second hit of the game, a triple to the left center gap to plate Baisa. Two batters later, junior Caleb Stayton gave Ball State (26-17, 11-5 MAC) an insurance run with an RBI single.
Junior reliever BJ Butler (4-0) made the lead hold up as he pitched the final 3.2 innings without allowing a run. Butler has recorded up three MAC road wins this season and has not allowed a run in 10 consecutive appearances.
Ball State took the early lead with two runs in the third inning highlighted by junior Alex Maloney's RBI double.
Buffalo (12-25, 5-11) evened the score with a pair of bases loaded walks in the fifth. The Bulls had a chance to win the game in the bottom of the ninth, but stranded runners on the corners after a leadoff double.
Baisa finished a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate for the Cardinals and also stole three bases. Meanwhile, Call went 2-for-5 with two RBIs.
Due to predicted poor weather conditions, the two teams will attempt to play a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at noon, instead of a single game tomorrow and another on Sunday.
