
Men's Tennis Wins 4-3 Thriller Over Toledo

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis team defeated the Toledo Rockets 4-3 Friday at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center, in its final regular season match. The Cardinals improve to 12-11 overall and 4-3 in Mid-American -Conference action, while the Rockets fall to 7-16 and 0-6 in league play.
It was the Rockets who jumped out to a quick start over the Cardinals in doubles action. Toledo won the first match after taking a 6-2 victory over Ball State's No. 3 duo, Matt Helm and Jan Jirus. On court two, Lucas Andersen then paired up with teammate Patrick Downs for a 6-3 defeat over the Rockets Danilo Pejovic and Omar Espinosa. With doubles tied 1-1, Toledo rallied past Andrew Stutz and Conner Andersen, 7-6 (4) to clinch the doubles point.
The Cardinals got off to a rough start in singles action, beginning with Nemanja Guzina, who fell in straight sets to Serjen Olmedo, 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 3 spot. With Toledo up 2-0, Patrick Downs got Ball State on the board with his 7-6 (5), 6-4 victory over Pejovic at the No. 5 position.
After that, Ball State went up 3-2 earning wins on courts two and six, respectively. Andrew Stutz took Luka Vitosevic down, 6-4, 6-4 and Marko Guzina beat Espinosa, 7-6 (3), 6-3. Toledo continued to fight, tying the match 3-3 after winning in three sets at No. 4 singles.
The match would then come down to the top court, where Lucas Andersen won a three set thriller over Stjepan Sisko (4-6, 7-6 (3), 6-4) to give Ball State the 4-3 win over Toledo.
