2015-16 (JUNIOR): Led the team in Mid-American Conference action with a 7-0 singles mark . . . Had the second best overall mark on the team after posting a 19-6 record . . . Played mainly on court six during singles play . . . Won seven of his last 10 matches . . . Opened league action with a straight set win over Toledo’s Reid Teatsorth (March 18) . . . Took three set thrillers over MAC opponents Northern Illinois, Buffalo and Western Michigan.
2014-15 (SOPHOMORE): Named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team . . . Finished the season with a 15-14 overall singles mark . . . Earned back-to-back wins in his first fall tournament over Marquette and Air Force . . . Captured dual wins over Detroit, Taylor, Butler, IU Southeast, Western Michigan and Buffalo.
2013-14 (FRESHMAN): Posted an overall mark of 16-14 while finishing the season with an 11-9 dual record . . . Went 2-1 in Mid-American Conference action . . . Closed the season with four straight victories which included pivotal conference wins over Western Michigan (4/13) and Buffalo (4/20) . . . Helped the Cardinals earn their ticket to the 2014 MAC Tournament title match after posting a straight set victory (6-3, 6-1) over Toledo's Roberto Meza on court five which gave Ball State the 3-1 win over the Rockets . . . Contributed to Ball State's win over Buffalo in the MAC Tournament title match at Cardinal Creek Tennis Center (4/27), which is the 38th MAC regular season or tournament championship in the 42-year tenure of Bill Richards advancing the Cardinals to their eighth trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Downs played tennis at Canterbury High School, where he earned All-State First Team honors back-to-back seasons in 2010 and 2011. He is a three- star recruit and ranks 289 nationally on tennisrecruiting.net. He is the fifth ranked senior in the state of Indiana.
Named First Team All-State and Prep Sports Player of the Year during his junior and sophomore seasons . . . Second Team All-State honoree as a freshman . . . Advanced to the state quarterfinals as a sophomore.
