
Men's Tennis Falls To MAC Leader WMU, 5-2

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Ball State men's tennis team suffered a 5-2 loss to Mid-American Conference leader Western Michigan Sunday afternoon at Sorenson Courts. With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 11-11 overall and 3-3 in league action while the Broncos improve to 17-5 and 5-1 in conference action.
For the second straight match the Cardinals took the first doubles match from their opponent. On the top court, Conner Andersen alongside Andrew Stutz defeated Maik Steiner and Matt Hamilton by a score of 6-3. The Broncos then rallied back to take wins on courts two and three which allowed Western Michigan to claim the doubles point over Ball State.
Western Michigan continued to dominate the match after earning victories on courts two, three, six and four in singles play. Only two Cardinals won their matches today over Western Michigan. Lucas Andersen managed a 6-4, 7-6 (1) victory over Maik Steiner at No. 1 singles and Patrick Downs won a two set tie breaker over Daniel Loebel, 2-6, 6-3, 10-8 at the No. 5 position.
The Ball State men's tennis team will end its 2016 Mid-American Conference regular season when it hosts Toledo Friday at Cardinal Creek Tennis Center, weather permitting. First serve is set for 2:30 p.m.
