Baseball Bounces Back With 10-7 Win at Central Michigan

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Ball State baseball team scored seven runs the final four innings to pull out a 10-7 win at Central Michigan Saturday afternoon at Theunissen Stadium. The two teams will play the rubber game of the series Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m.
Ball State (22-14, 8-3 MAC) trailed the host Chippewas (8-27, 3-5) 6-3 heading into the top of the sixth inning. Roman Baisa's RBI single highlighted a three-run sixth for the Cardinals to even the score.
Central Michigan briefly retook the lead in the bottom of the sixth thanks to an RBI single from Zach McKinstry.
However, Ball State tied the score again in the seventh behind senior Ryan Spaulding's sacrifice fly ball. Junior Caleb Stayton came up with the go-ahead hit in the eighth, a two-out, two-run single down the right field line.
Junior reliever BJ Butler (2-0) made sure the lead would hold up as he held Central Michigan scoreless the final three innings. The righty struck out three batters and only allowed two singles to earn his second win of the season.
Central Michigan committed seven errors in the setback, which contributed to nine unearned runs for the Cardinals.
Ball State has now scored at least nine runs in seven of its 11 MAC games.
Baisa, who made his first start since April 1, finished 3-of-4 at the plate and scored three times. Stayton added two hits and four RBIs to bring his league-leading RBI total to 52.
Daniel Jipping recorded four hits and two RBIs for the Chippewas.
The series finale is slated to begin tomorrow at 1:05 p.m.
