House Named Second Team All-MAC, All-Defensive
March 07, 2016 | Men's Basketball
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Franko House of the Ball State men's basketball team was named Monday to the All-Mid-American Conference Second Team and the All-MAC Defensive Team.
One of the most versatile players in the league, House helped Ball State (19-12, 10-8 MAC) to a share of the MAC West Division championship for the first time since 2009. He was the only player to be named to an All-MAC team and the league's all-defensive team.
The junior forward from Elkhart, Indiana, enters the MAC Tournament averaging 12.4 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. He ranks fifth in the MAC in field goal percentage at 55.1 percent.
“I'm proud of Franko for this honor,” Ball State coach James Whitford said. “It is well deserved. He has been outstanding on both sides of the ball. I think the award is a reflection of his great individual effort and also a great team effort in winning the MAC West championship. It's a credit to Franko and all of his teammates that he is recognized in this way.”
House is one of only three players in the league to rank first or second on his team in points (385), rebounds (170), assists (66) and blocked shots (19). Toledo's Nathan Boothe and Kent State's Jimmy Hall, both first-team all-conference selections, are the other two.
House has demonstrated the ability to guard every position on the floor. He leads a Ball State defensive effort that ranks first in the league in scoring defense (66.7 ppg) and second in field goal percentage defense (.406).
Offensively this season, he has scored as many as 23 points (vs. Central Michigan), grabbed as many as 10 rebounds (twice) and handed out as many as nine assists (vs. Western Michigan).
He has played his best offensive basketball down the stretch, averaging 20.7 points per game over Ball State's final three regular season contests.
The Cardinals, seeded sixth, open the MAC Tournament with a first-round game tonight against Miami at 7 p.m. at Worthen Arena. The winner will advance to Cleveland, Ohio, to meet No. 3 seed Buffalo in Thursday's quarterfinal round.
