March 05, 2016 | Men's Basketball
MUNCIE, Ind. -- The sixth-seeded Ball State men's basketball team will host No. 11 seed Miami in Monday's first round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament. The game will tip at 7 p.m. at Worthen Arena.
Ball State (19-12, 10-8 MAC) shared the MAC West Division championship with Central Michigan. It was the program's first division title since sharing it in 2009. The Cardinals finished in a four-way tie for the No. 3 spot in the overall standings but received the No. 6 seed based on tiebreakers.
The Cardinals played Miami (12-19, 6-12 MAC) twice in the regular season, winning 48-46 in Muncie (Jan. 16) and 73-56 in Oxford, Ohio (Feb. 16). Miami finished the regular season with wins in three of its final four games.
Ball State and Miami have met nine times previously in the MAC Tournament (BSU leads 5-4), but they have not met since the 2004 quarterfinals.
The winner of Monday's game will advance to play No. 3 seed Buffalo in the quarterfinals Thursday at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.
