YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Ball State men's swim and dive team is in seventh place with 112 points after rounding out the third day of competition at the 2016 Mid-American Conference Men's Swimming & Diving Championships, hosted by Eastern Michigan.
Junior Bradley Ridge was the first to put points up for Ball State on the third of four days of competition as he touched the wall in 49.28 in the 100 butterfly event. The time earned Ridge 10th place honors overall, as well as seven points for the Cardinals' squad, and the time was a new season-best by nearly one second for the Carmel, Ind. native.
Ball State then had freshman Zach Reichle compete in the 100 breaststroke finals. Reichle clocked a new career-best of 56.39 in the prelims prior to finishing in 56.72 to earn 13th place overall. In addition to shaving off nearly two seconds on his previous season-best, the Scottsboro, Ala. native earned four points for the Cardinals.
Reichle and Ridge teamed up with sophomore Nate Slack and senior Cole Smith to clock a new Ball State season-best in the 400 medley relay by six seconds. The squad finished in 3:24.95 and earned 24 points for a seventh place finish to round out the third day of competition.
Host school Eastern Michigan continues to lead the action as it heads into the final day of the 2016 MAC Championships with 528 points, while Missouri State sits comfortably in second with 439 points, just in front of Buffalo who holds 404 points.
The Cardinals return to Jones Natatorium tomorrow morning for preliminary sessions starting at 11 a.m., followed final swims at 7 p.m.
