A Look at the Cardinals
• Ball State hosts its first postseason game since the first round of the 2002 NIT on Sunday when UT Martin visits for the second round of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT).
• The Cardinals advanced to this point with a 78-73, double-overtime win Tuesday at Tennessee State. Ball State overcame an early 20-3 deficit and 31 turnovers to win the game behind 25 points from Jeremie Tyler and 20 from Ryan Weber. It was the first time this season the team had multiple players with 20 points in a game.
• The win at Tennessee Martin marked Ball State's first postseason victory since the 2002 NIT third round. It also gave the Cardinals 20 wins for the first time since that 2001-02 campaign.
• Sunday will mark Ball State's second straight game against an Ohio Valley Conference opponent and its fourth of the season. The Cardinals own wins over Eastern Illinois (73-56) and Tennessee State (78-73) and a loss to Eastern Kentucky (89-81).
• Ball State ranks No. 151 out of 351 Division I teams in the Ken Pomeroy rankings and has been as high as No. 127 this season. BSU has not finished a season better than its current Pomeroy ranking since 2005 (No. 105)
• BSU is the fourth-most improved team in the country in terms of its record from last year to this year (source: NCAA). The Cardinals have improved from 7-23 to 20-13.
In the Record Books
• Ball State's 289 3-pointers this season are the second-most in school history, behind only the 310 of the 2001-02 team.
• The Cardinals broke the school record for 3's in a game with 18 on Feb. 27 versus Eastern Michigan, surpassing the previous record of 16 versus IUPUI on Dec. 15, 2001.
• Ball State also hit 15 3-pointers, one shy of the school record at the time, in the Feb. 9 win over Western Michigan.
• The Cardinals rank 31st in the country in 3-pointers made and 44th nationally in 3-point percentage (.376).
Locking It Down
• Even with the increased offense in college basketball this season, Ball State is holding opponents to 66.3 points per game. That number ranks first in the MAC and 48th in the country.
• The Cardinals have held 19 opponents to fewer than 70 points, and they have won 16 of those games.
• Ball State ranks second in the MAC and 38th nationally in field goal percentage defense, holding opponents to 40.4 percent from the floor.
• The Cardinals have held 18 opponents this season to less than 40 percent shooting.
